Landscaping in Adelaide: How We Design, Price and Build
Most landscaping in Adelaide goes wrong at the start, not the end. A concreter, a fencer, a paver and a gardener each quote their piece, nobody owns the levels or the drainage, and the result is a yard that pools water and has steps in the wrong place. We do it the other way: one survey, one 3D plan, one fixed price, one crew from the excavator to the last plant.
How does the process work?
The site visit is free. We measure the block, check levels, soil and access, and talk through how you want to use the yard. From that we prepare a 3D design so you can see the finished job before anything is built, and a fixed written quote itemised by stage. Once you approve, we schedule the build and run it start to finish.
What does landscaping cost in Adelaide?
A full backyard with retaining, concrete or paving, lawn, garden beds and irrigation typically runs from $25,000 to $80,000 depending on the size and slope of the block and the finishes chosen. A front yard makeover often lands between $12,000 and $30,000. Show-home style builds with outdoor rooms, pools and lighting go higher. The 3D plan lets you adjust the scope to the budget before we start rather than after.
What is different about Adelaide soil?
Much of the metropolitan area sits on reactive clay that swells and shrinks with the seasons. It moves footings, cracks paving and drowns plants in winter. Good landscaping here starts with drainage and base preparation: ag-drains behind walls, graded falls away from the house, compacted rubble under every hard surface, and gypsum and organic matter worked into the clay before planting.
Which plants work in Adelaide?
Adelaide is hot, dry and alkaline for most of the year and wet for a short winter. Natives such as kangaroo paw, westringia, dianella, lomandra and grevillea handle it well, as do Mediterranean plants like olives, rosemary and lavender. Lawn choices are Sir Walter and Kikuyu for full sun, TifTuf where water is tight. We plant for the site and set up drip irrigation on a controller so it survives January.
Do you handle council approvals?
Yes. Retaining walls over a metre, pools, some outbuildings and work near boundaries can need development approval. We identify what applies at the site visit and lodge the application as part of the job.
Do you do new builds and volume housing?
Yes. We have completed turnkey landscaping and show-home yards for AV Jennings, Devine, Quattro, Metro and Hickinbotham, and we work with builders and developers on packages across Adelaide.

How long does a landscaping job take?
A front yard is typically one to two weeks on site. A full backyard with retaining and concrete runs three to six weeks, with a week or two of curing built in before lawn and paving go on. Design and approvals come before that, so allow six to twelve weeks from first call to finished yard.
